He worked at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens as a horticulturist and as Assistant Curator of Fine Arts at the Chrysler Museum.
When he moved to Williamsburg, he worked at Colonial Williamsburg for 35 years and retired as Director of Landscape Services.
Robert and his wife have been married for almost 50 years and have a daughter and son, and three grandchildren. Robert serves as Minister of Visitation for Kings Way Church.
