After a brief fight with cancer, William “Bill” Edward Patrick Sr., 71, of Newport News, Virginia, passed away on Monday, May 29, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones.

On March 3, 1952, in Newport News, Virginia, Bill was born, the eighth child and youngest of Orvel and Mary Patrick’s eight children.  He enjoyed painting so much that he worked as a painter for more than 40 years.  Bill had his first child, Rachel, in 1973, and Bill Jr., his second child, was born the following year. Bill put a lot of work into taking care of his children’s needs as a single father raising two kids.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Orvel and Mary, three brothers, Jake, Donald Lee, and Jimmy, three sisters, Judith, Brenda, and Mary Jane, one nephew, Lenny, and his close friend, Chuck.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and Jason Harris; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Traci Patrick; sister and brother-in-law, Debby and Ray Corey; and sister-in-law, JoAnn Patrick.  His grandchildren, Steven and Morgan Moody, Scottie Patrick, Cassie Donegan, Kameron Harris, Natalee Harris, and Cheyenne Patrick. His two great-granddaughters, Sophia Patrick and Charlotte Moody and several nieces and nephews.

Roxy, Bill’s cherished Chihuahua, will miss him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be sent to the American Cancer Society or the Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter.
Many thanks to Riverside Hospital’s devoted nurse Kelsey.

To Rachel and family, we are so sorry to hear about your dad. It is so hard when you lose a parent. Especially for you since your dad was the only parent you had. Just look back and remember all the good times you had with him and it will help to ease a little of the pain. We are here if you need anything. Again, we are so very sorry.
