William Cunningham Sneddon passed away Monday, December 12, 2022, in Hampton, VA.
William is preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Elizabeth. His daughter, Donna and her husband Kenneth; brothers, Hugh, Alec, Maxwell, and sister Ann.
He is survived by his loving and devoted partner, Mae Guinshaw, his son, William (Joyce), daughter, Moira (Ronald); sister-in-law, Mary Sneddon, brother-in-law, James Strapp (Helen); 6 grandsons, 4 granddaughters, 13 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Sneddon was born in New York City on the 5th day of May 1930 and was the son of Hugh and Margaret Sneddon. His childhood and youth though were spent in Lanarkshire, Scotland. He returned to the United States in 1947 with his family. He spent 23 years in the U.S.Air Force before settling in Hampton Roads. He was then employed for 23 years at Riverside Hospital’s Operating Room Section.
Mr. Sneddon was a longtime member of the Bethel Chapel at Langley Air Force Base and currently a member of Denbigh United Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Sneddon had a lifetime interest in soccer. Among many positions he was the first coach of the Christopher Newport University soccer team and the founding President of the Peninsula Soccer Officals’ Association. He also enjoyed golf and was a member of the Pines Golf at Ft. Eustis.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 17, 1:00 pm at Denbigh United Presbyterian Church in Newport News, VA. Interment to follow at Peninsula Memorial Park at 3pm.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Denbigh United Presbyterian Church.
