William Arthur Shoemaker, known affectionately as Bill, passed away peacefully on May 10th, 2023 at the age of 80 in Chesapeake, Virginia. Born on August 24th, 1942 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, he lived a life full of passion and purpose.

Bill was a true American hero, having served his country proudly as a retired Army Green Beret. He was a Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart Recipient, and his service to his country was a testament to his unwavering commitment to making the world a better place.

Following his service in the military, Bill went on to become an entrepreneur and business owner. He owned his own auto body parts company, and his work ethic and determination inspired many who knew him.

Despite his impressive career, Bill’s greatest joys came from spending time with his family and indulging his love for cars.  His passion for cooking earned him a certificate from one of the world’s most prestigious culinary institutions, Le Cordon Bleu, in Paris, France. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife Candy, and a loving father to his son Charles, stepson, Matthew and wife Danielle with their two boys, Wolfe and Rios. He will also be remembered by his daughter Eleanor, sons William Jr. and Christopher.  Many years as a proud grandfather and great-grandfather, have allowed him to cherish the time he spent with each and every one of them.

Bill’s passing is a loss felt deeply by his family and friends, but his legacy will live on through those whose lives he has touched. Services for Bill will be held at 12:30pm on Sunday, June 4th, 2023 at CenterPoint Community Church, (253 St. Lukes Church Rd, Chesapeake VA 23320) , to honor his remarkable life and pay tribute to the incredible man he was.
