October 10, 1937 - October 20, 2023

10/10/1937 - 10/20/2023

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved William A. Brown, Jr., affectionately known as Bill, on October 20, 2023, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Born on October 10, 1937, in South Carolina, Bill lived a remarkable life filled with resilience, love, and unwavering dedication to his family and recovery program.

Bill’s journey spanned 86 years, during which he touched the lives of all those he encountered. As a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, his impact was immeasurable. Bill’s devotion to his country was evident through his service in the United States Navy as an aviation electrician. His many years work as a Security Guard exemplified his commitment to keeping others safe and his concern for the well-being of those around him.  Bill was also an active member of a recovery program for over 50 years. His tireless dedication to this program highlighted his strength, perseverance, and the transformative power of God. Bill’s journey inspired others to find hope and healing, leaving a lasting legacy of strength and resilience.

Bill’s loving wife of 60 years, Veronica M. Brown, their daughter Tracey L. Brown, and their son Steven K. Brown preceded him in death as did his sister Betty Jones. Their spirits will forever remain intertwined, united in love and cherished memories. Bill’s parents, William Brown and Minnie Young, also preceded him in death, leaving behind cherished memories and lessons that shaped the man he became.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons William “Shawn” Brown, Michael “Mike” L. Brown, and Timothy “Tim” M. Brown. As well his many grandchildren, Melonie Brown, Michelle L. Brown, Nicole N. Brown, Timothy W. Brown, Keith Thompson, William L. Brown Tremmel, Maurice Brown and Jahnya Brown held a special place in his heart.

As we bid farewell to our beloved Bill, let us remember the laughter and joy he brought into our lives, the strength he displayed during challenging times, and the love he shared with all those fortunate enough to know him. Though his physical presence may be gone, his spirit will live on forever in our hearts. May we find solace in knowing that Bill is now reunited with his loved ones who have gone before him, watching over us from above.

In this time of mourning, let us also find inspiration in Bill’s incredible journey. May his legacy remind us to embrace each day with gratitude, love without reservation, and to face life’s challenges with unwavering strength and determination. Rest in eternal peace, dear Bill, knowing that your memory will forever be a guiding light in our lives

Bill changed my life as my AA sponsor, he taught me more about myself than any therapist I ever went to. He was always available, called me every day when I went through a major depression, and his laugh was contagious. He will be truly missed by many!

I was Blessed to hold both Bill and Veronica as dear friends. Veronica loved holding our son Antonio after he was born and showed both our daughter Gloria and he so much love in their younger years. My heart and live are with all Bill touched with his humor and live through the years. Rest peacefully, my friends!
