anda Immacolata Riggs, 97, joined her heavenly family on June 7, 2022. She died at home with her loved ones at her side.
She was predeceased by her husband, Lindsey Thomas Riggs, her three brothers, and her parents. She is survived by her sister, Anna Patrizi; son, Joseph Ernest Riggs (Nilsa); daughter, Annamaria Haj (Wendell); nephews and nieces in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and in Italy, and her beloved granddaughters, Sarah Shute (Matthew) and Alexandra Haj.
Wanda was born in Naples, Italy where she obtained a post graduate education at a time when it was thought unnecessary for women to be educated. She left the university to marry an American and eventually they were transferred with his military career back to the states. They moved to Norfolk, Virginia in approximately 1960.
She was an excellent Italian cook. She loved everything about America. Wanda was a football fanatic who could trace the history of each player. Her humor and warmth drew people to her, and she was the center of family life both here and in Italy.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Virginia Beach on Thursday, June 9, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. The family will be available to meet with friends in the Tobias Room after the Mass.
The family wishes to thank the hospice team and her caregiver for the kindness, warmth, support, and assistance that they provided. All of you are blessed.
