VIRGINIA BEACH- Walter A. Weddle, 90, cherished and loving father, brother, papa, and friend went to be with the Lord December 26, 2022. Walter was born on January 11th, 1932 in Cloverdale (Roanoke) Virginia to the late Ocelia Bryant Weddle and Henry Jackson Weddle. He was a faithful member of Kempsville Christian Church where he served most of his adult life as an ordained church leader. Walter was a 1949 Troutville High School graduate where he excelled in basketball and baseball. He served our nation with the US Army during the Korean War. Walter is known for his many gifts and talents including his love of storytelling, golfing and dancing but primarily will be remembered by most as a custom home builder.

Mr. Weddle was blessed with a large family and was predeceased by his wife of more than 50 years, Elizabeth Bateman Weddle, son Larry Jeffery Weddle, brothers Lenwood, Bill & Paul Weddle. He is survived by sisters Nancy Melton and Patricia Johnson and brothers H. Wayne Weddle (Linda)and Kenny Weddle (Marion); daughters Debra Lane (Allen) and Lori Sellers (Terry), sons Walter (Jay) Weddle Jr., and Steven Weddle (Megan); six grandchildren Neil Sellers (Amber), Millie Lane, Morgan Sellers, Gavin Weddle, Tara Sellers and Blakely Weddle; great grandchildren Adrian Sellers, and Savannah Coker; sister in-laws Patricia Penello and Pamela Stalls; brother in-law Sammy Bateman and many special cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the many care-givers, volunteers, staff, nurses and doctors from Sentara Hospice Care, Care Advantage in-home care, Urology of Virginia, Virginia Oncology Associates, Sentara Hospital and Walmart Pharmacy. During his six plus years living with prostate cancer, Walter maintained his sense of humor and looked forward to the visits and encouragement and he really enjoyed sharing his many stories with each of you.

The visitation will be held on Friday, December 30, 2022 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home 5033 Rouse Drive, Virginia Beach. A Celebration of Life service will be held on December 31 2022 at 11:30am in the Altmeyer Chapel. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park.

To Walter Weddle’s family-

So very sorry to learn of the death of Walter—I was thinking about him the day before I saw his obituary in the newspaper.

Walter built our home in Fairfield and my husband and I could only say the nicest things about him. He was a wonderful person and a real gentleman.

I am truly sadden. I have such fond memories of Walter.
