Vera Henderson, 86, passed away on January 2, 2024 in Newport News, VA.

Born December 23, 1937 in Austria before Anschluss (takeover) of Austria, Vera’s father, Richard Schubert, got his wife, and two month old Vera, out of Europe managing to escape to the United States, where the family settled in San Francisco and rapidly became Americanized.

Vera’s husband, Horace Edward Henderson known as “Hunky” preceded her in death in 2014 after 48 years of a wonderful, loving marriage.  Both had two children from previous marriages.

Vera attended college at the University of Arizona and later, on her own, studied various law books for a period of 8 months; took the Virginia law exam; and passed with flying colors.  Vera wanted to emulate her father, who was the top lawyer for our military occupation of Germany after World War II. Previous to this, she graduated from Wiesbaden American High School, later renamed General H.H. “Hap” Arnold High School after the man considered to be the father of the United States Air Force.

Vera and Hunky met at the college of William and Mary.  They later married in Geneva, Switzerland after he became Minister General of the World Peace organization through its’ law center in Geneva and head of the world Jaycees. They eventually ended up living in Virginia.  Now they both will be lying in rest at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Williamsburg, Virginia together.
