Tara Kay Smith, 47, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday January 19, 2022 in Norfolk, Virginia surrounded by her family.  Tara was born October 11, 1974 to Tommie and Janice Smith in Virginia Beach, Virginia.  She was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School.
If you knew Tara, you knew the one great love in her life was music, but especially worship music.  Tara led worship at many churches over the years including Beach Pentecostal, Connect Church, One City Church and Liberty Live.  Tara loved ‘King Jesus’, her family and friends and was forever laughing or making others laugh with her quick wit.  Tara loved traveling, going to concerts, dancing and she especially loved her dogs.
Tara was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Luke and Madeline Smith and her maternal grandparents, Russell and Juanita Holland, and her Uncle Buddy Smith and Uncle Jim. Left to cherish her memory are her parents, Tommie Sr. and Janice Smith, her brothers Tommie Jr. (McKenzie), Trent (Jenny), Trey (Ashley), her beloved nieces and nephews, Torrance, Casen, Gibson, Harper and Easton, as well as dozens of aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends and associates.
A visitation will be held from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm on Monday February 7th at Liberty Live Greenbrier, 1801 Sara Drive, Chesapeake, VA 23320 with services to follow at 1:00 pm.  A graveside service will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens at 3:00pm. Tara's "Triumphant" Family
1 year ago

In 1988 a collection of about 20 young people ages 13–20 formed a music and ministry group that became known as “Triumphant”. We blended our talents, our hearts for ministry and our love for God. For about four years, churches were blessed with anointed worship, preaching and prayer. Bonds were formed that have lasted our entire lives and now more than 30 years later this “family“ continues to do the work of our Father in various areas of ministry.

Tara Kay Smith was a vital part of that ministry and she continued in ministry by leading and serving on worship teams at several churches over the passing years. A special anointing rested on her to lead God‘s people into his presence. Now she is singing and worshiping in an entirely and profoundly Holy Spirit saturated atmosphere as she rests in the presence of her Lord.

The “Triumphant“ family honors Tara‘s life and ministry with our contribution to Tara’s TMC Funding page and we will continue to celebrate her life, her accomplishments and the richness that she added to all of our lives. We love you Tara Kay Smith.

So many memories of Tara
From pool parties, ballgames, church and family events, watching her sing her heart out worshipping and praising our Lord, often with Tommie Sr, Tommie Jr, and later Trey on drums, and Trent on the keyboard, even Janice singing every now and then. What a musically talented family. The Smith family is so precious to us… we are privileged to be both family and friends! Tara had such a beautiful smile and big ole laugh, her whole body would shake. It was contagious especially when Trent was up to his pranks. What a time I had training Tara following oversize trucks. She had me laughing so hard I forgot we were working! She is truly going to be missed. Praying for the family as you celebrate her life! May the peace of Christ, His Joy, and His comfort be holding and sustaining you. So blessed because of Salvation in Jesus Christ, for those of us who are saved by His grace, this is not goodbye but we will be seeing
ya real soon!

We love you all so very much and have been praying for you over these past weeks. It has been such a privilege to call you both family and friends. Tara always had the biggest smile and even bigger laugh. Looked so forward to catching up with her at the pool parties, such wonderful memories. Thinking about her and Janice now when they both tried pilot car driving. You both made working fun. Thinking of Tara singing so powerful… many times with Trent on the keyboard and Trey, Tommie Sr, or Tommie Jr on the drums. May each of you continue to share your talents with each of us, and be comforted with the hope that Tara is celebrating in heaven with our Precious Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. Praying His peace is filling you and His comfort is strengthening you. We love you!

Tara Kay was a beautiful, talented and loving young lady. Even tho I was old enough to be her grandma the age difference never mattered. She treated me with the utmost respect. She nicknamed me “The Pope” and I nicked named her “Ceiling Fan.” It was a private joke between us. Every year we wished each other happy birthday with our nicknames. Since my birthday was January 19th I didn’t get the usual birthday greeting but I got a greeting from heaven where she is singing and rejoicing. Love you Tara Kay! Praying for Tommy and Janice and all the family. ❤️

I remember hearing Tara sing at One City Church and thought ashe should be a professional. I didnt know her then but we t up after service, introduced myself and told her she has a Beautiful Voice. Tara Thanked me and gave me one of her Gorgeous Smiles (one that lit her whole face. I got to know her a little through church and visits with her mother. She was funny and full of Life Nd Love.
