Sylvia Malee Bazemore of Virginia Beach, Virginia, passed away suddenly on May 16, 2022. She was born on April 19, 1943, in Portsmouth, Virginia. She was baptized at a young age at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Bertie County, North Carolina. She grew up in Celestial Baptist Church in Mount Hermon in Portsmouth.
Sylvia graduated from I.C. Norcom High School in 1962 and attended Norfolk State College, majoring in art. A talented artist, Sylvia created oil paintings and even worked in New York creating eye-catching window displays. She later changed careers, joining the fraud department at American Express in New York City. Her career with American Express took her to Plantation, Florida and Atlanta, Georgia. A free spirit, Sylvia had a quick wit and an easy laugh and will be missed by her family and friends.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, Lillian and George L. Bazemore, Sr., her nephew, Andre Kee and her niece, Shari Kee. She leaves in mourning her devoted sisters Eldner Bazemore Shepard (William) and Karen Bazemore Kee, her brother George L. Bazemore, Jr., her nieces Melanie Shepard Porter (Chris), Stephanie Shepard and Jovan Kee Miree, and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
