Swayzie Lola Trejo, the daughter of Kelly and Richard Trejo, graced our earth on November 8, 2023 at 6:22am, in Norfolk, VA. She was born at 38 weeks with complications that required prompt care in the NICU at The Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters. Swayzie is a much yearned for rainbow baby, and lived out her 18 days of life bravely and mightily, with her parents by her side. During her short time here, she was able to meet her two siblings, maternal grandparents and a few family friends. She was rare medically speaking, and also, extra special in the eyes of God. She impacted the world by bringing them together prayerfully, and showcasing a strength few have that can only come from the Lord. Though memories with her are few, they are full of a profound love, holding such special moments, like opening her eyes at her mommy and daddy’s voices, smacking her lips at the taste of mama’s milk, and gripping her parents fingers with a sense of security. On November 26, at 1:56am, Swayzie peacefully transitioned from her mother’s arms into the arms of God, as mommy and daddy ushered her in with prayers and words of comfort. She is fully restored and dancing joyfully with her twin siblings and loved ones in Heaven.

Swayzie is survived by her parents, older sister Kenlyn, older brother Julen, maternal grandparents, Miguel Angel and Laura Patino, paternal grandmother, Marielaina Madrid and countless aunties, uncles, and many, many cousins.

The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to all of the multiple specialist teams at CHKD, involved in Swayzie’s care, including Neonatology (Dr. Green, Dr. Tiffany, and the rest of the wonderful physicians and amazing nurses), Hematology/Oncology (Dr. Lowe, Dr. Owen, Dr. Werner) and Gastroenterology, Infectious Disease, Genetics, Respiratory Therapy, and various resident physicians and ancillary services (Social Work, Chaplaincy). The family is forever grateful for the many prayers, loving words and support sent to Swayzie and her family, from coast to coast, in between and all over the world.
