Svante Hartstrand passed away at his home in Virginia Beach, Virginia, on November 25, 2023, at the age of 61.  A native of Pennsauken, New Jersey, Svante graduated from Camden County Vocational and Technical School in 1980 and then joined the United States Navy where he served the Nation for 20 years aboard the USS Peterson (DD-969), in Greece and other postings.  After he retired from the Navy, Svante lived in Virginia Beach where he worked in a variety of jobs including most recently at BJ’s Wholesale Club where he earned the distinction of being employee of the month.  Svante was a caring son, brother and uncle and he loved spending time with his friends in Virginia Beach sharing laughs and good times.  He also adored his pets over the years.  Svante was a gentle and kind person who would help anyone who needed it.    

Svante is survived by his mother, Gunborg Hartstrand, and sister, Marianne Bleicken, her husband David Bleicken, and their children Lillian and Peter, all who live in Fairfax County, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a contribution to the Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center at
