Susan Gale Schumacher, aged 69, passed away on the afternoon of March 24th, 2022. Sue was born on March 19th, 1953 to the late Ivan and Violet Walker on Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.
Susan was a lover of many things, including history, reading, gardening, and staying active. She was a prolific reader, imbibing any genre that struck her fancy. The Outlander and Martha’s Vineyard series, self help and religious books are just some of the many kinds of books Sue enjoyed. Any time she visited back home in Maryland, Sue explored the different Smithsonian Museums. The Natural History Museum was her favorite.
Sue loved to ski, although she was not all that good at it and had to stop after a work related knee injury. Susan and her husband, Robert, loved taking their grandkids on multiple trips and a variety of adventures. Some of their outdoor endeavors included skiing, white water rafting, and rock climbing. Susan was a frequent supporter of charities and made sure to donate to as many as she could, in particular, the Humane Society.
Susan dedicated her life to the care of others. She was a registered nurse for many years. Sue received her Master’s degree in nursing in the pursuit to become the best nurse she could.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents and her grandson Ethan Isaiah Schumacher.
Susan is survived by her devoted husband, Robert E. Jesse; son, David Schumacher, of Virginia Beach; grandchildren, Kendall and Coda Schumacher; and brother Dale Walker, of Tennessee.
In lieu of flowers, the family of Susan Schumacher has requested that donations be made in Susan’s name to the Humane Society so that her passion for the care of animals will continue on.
A graveside service will be held at a later date, please check back for times.

I really can say I have never had a closer friend and co-worker. Sue, you have no idea how many lives you impacted and all of us will miss you terribly. Your dedication to caring for others will always be with me and hopefully some of it has rubbed off on to me. Rest and know we are taking care of those you love.
Gale, I will miss you and our visits together with you and Jesse. You were my cousin but like an older sister to me over the years. I hope that you have found peace and no more pain. I know that you are looking down on us with Dad and Uncle Ivan saying “Now look at what she’s doing now” And laughing. So now I have another guardian angel watching over me.
Will be truly missed
