Susan Camille Griffin, 55, of Perquimans County, NC formerly of Chesapeake, VA, left us on Sunday, Sept. 3 for her heavenly home. She was the daughter of Frances Coleman Griffin and the late E.C. “Tony” Griffin, Jr. Susan attended Great Bridge High School. In her mid-teens she talked her parents into taking her to Nashville, TN so she could try to find a producer interested in her guitar playing and songwriting abilities. She was ambitious and loved adventure. Susan was a great photographer, even after she was bedridden was able to take beautiful pictures of deer, flowers and birds through her bedroom window. She was strong in her beliefs but sweet hearted and loyal to her family and friends to a fault. Though small in stature, she was fearless. Susan was gutsy, beautiful and was her mother’s hero!!
Susan was naturally athletic and excelled in softball. She also learned to do genealogy from her mother and loved it. Susan loved going to family reunions and to Deep Creek Mennonite Church with Homer and Grace Wenger. She had many fond memories of those times. Susan loved her family and many friends. Susan was an exceptional, loving and supportive mother to her sons, Chris and Bubba of whom she was proud of them!
Susan was predeceased by her son, Christopher C. Griffin, her brother, Larry C. Griffin, father E.C. “Tony” Griffin, Jr. and her beloved pet “Baby” C. Griffin.
She is survived by her son, “Bubba” C. Griffin, who was her sole caregiver; mother, Frances C. Griffin; brother, Michael C. Griffin; sister, Marie C. Griffin, who took great care of her during her last days; nephew, Tony C. Griffin; many cousins; her Facebook buddy and cousin, Ernie Spain; former dance teacher, Mary Ann Wood; and a host of other family and friends.
We wish to thank all the nurses, doctors and staff at the River Pavilion of Sentara Norfolk General 10th floor, especially nurses, Jenn, Nancy, Cindy, Sarah and doctors, Anderson, Hurley, Bernes and Morris. We would like to also thank Bryson Ghose, who has been by Bubba’s side during this tragic time.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Chesapeake. A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday at the funeral home at 11:00 am, followed by a reception and then a committal service at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
