Seth (Al) Squires

VIRGINIA BEACH – Seth (Al) Felton Squires, 90, of Virginia Beach, left this world to be with his cherished wife, Jane and beloved pets, Bugga Bear and Yogi Bear on April 17, 2016.
He was born on November 5, 1925 to Seth and Cora (Cahoon) Squires in Riddles, NC. Seth was preceded in death by his wife, Jane A. Squires; and sisters, Edith Squires, Pauline Cohoon, Marissa Buxton. He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Sandra (Raybon) Stallings and Eloise Peters, 4 nieces, 6 great-nieces and 2 great-nephews. In his younger years as a merchant marine he traveled to many foreign ports. Al retired from Hall Hodges where he was a metal shop forman. He was a member of Indian River Masonic Lodge. Al was known affectingly by his neighbors and friends as the Mayor of Avalon Hills.The family would like to thank Roy (Audrey) Sorey, Mike (Glenda) Winstead and the wonderful community of Avalon Hills for their caring, love and support through Al’s illness. A visitation will be held at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road, VA Beach, on Friday, April 22 from 6-8pm. Graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 23, at 12pm, Rosewood Memorial Park in VA Beach. Online condolences can be given at www.altmeyerfh.com.
