Ruby Harrison Phibbs, 77, of Newport News, Virginia, went to be with Jesus on Monday, February 7, 2022. Her final days were spent surrounded by her loving husband, daughter and son in the comfort of her home. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Donald E. Phibbs; daughter and spouse, Melissa and John Tarter of Blacksburg, Virginia; son and spouse, Eddie and Jennifer Phibbs of Chaska, Minnesota; sister, Shelby King of Draper, Virginia; and brothers, Charles Harrison of Greenville, South Carolina and Marvin Harrison of Charlotte, North Carolina. Ruby is also survived by her true treasures and joy in this life, her five grandchildren; Holly Berry and husband Devin Berry, Corey Tarter, Olivia Tarter, Zachary Phibbs, and Mario Phibbs; as well as her two great grandchildren, Nora and Isaiah Berry. She is preceded in death by her parents, Forest Harrison and Opal Harrison; sister, Kathleen Kalinich; and brother, Albert Harrison.
Ruby was a devoted wife, loving mother and a great “spoiler” of her grandkids and great grandkids. She treasured her time caring for and playing with all the kids over her 31 years as a grandmother. Getting to know them, what they enjoyed, watching them grow and supporting them in every endeavor brought her immeasurable joy. She also loved to travel with her husband Donald to various regions throughout the country and spent countless hours at one of her favorite destinations, the beaches at Outer Banks, North Carolina. She was not one to sit still much and was always working in the yard, taking walks, visiting the local parks and restaurants, and taking care of her family. She was always joyful when spending warm days out on the beach, watching the waves, and enjoying the sun with her family all around.
She will be missed by many and her family looks forward to the time when they will be standing hand and hand with her again in God’s heavenly kingdom.
The family is having a private Graveside service and ask that in lieu of flowers donations be made to one of Ruby’s favorite charities: St Jude’s Hospital or The American Cancer Society.
My prayers and thoughts are with you all. Thank God she’s no longer in pain. But dancing on the golden streets of Heaven
