Lieutenant Colonel Robert C. Morrison, Retired US Army, 85 of Newport News, Virginia died peacefully in his home on Monday, July 17, 2023. He was born in Troy, New York to the late Lucille and James Delbert Morrison.
Robert “Bob” grew up surrounded by the beautiful Adirondack mountains in Schroon Lake, NY. He would attend elementary, junior high and high school in Schroon Lake and went on to attend his beloved Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant by General Ernest N. Harmon in 1959 and went on to lead a long and dedicated Military Career (24 years) until his retirement in 1984. Robert served two tours in Vietnam and was the recipient of multiple decorations and badges to include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Silver and three Bronze service stars as well as the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit. Bob would go on to serve many duties throughout his Military Career to include serving as the Director of Transportation at many of his duty stations. The most memorable duty station with his family by his side would be in Heidelberg, Germany where he would serve in Logistics for NATO at Campbell Barracks, United States Army Europe from 1978-1981.
His most important job in life however was as a family man and met the love of his life, Page Callis Morrison in Virginia Beach, Virginia at a get together hosted by their dear friends, Peggy and Phil Jones. Bob and Page would marry in November of 1963 and had 2 children, Ron and Cindy. He was also a loving grandfather to his two beloved grandchildren, Brandon and Nicole.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Page Callis Morrison, his Mother, Lucille F. Morrison, Father, James Delbert Morrison and a host of other relatives and friends. He is survived by his Daughter, Cindy Morrison-Frey (Evan), Son, Ron Morrison (Beth), his grandchildren, Brandon Robert Hatcher and Nicole Paige Hatcher, his nephew Dwayne Callis (Donna) and his dear Cousins, Eleanor, Scott, Bill, Gary Farnsworth, Robert Braley, and Mary Braley.
A graveside service with Military Honors is planned at Gwynn’s Island Cemetery on July 28, 2023 at 11am. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Norwich University by visiting alumni.norwich.edu and clicking “Give Now”.
