Rickie Columbus Gibbs of Newport News, Virginia very sadly passed away on April 21, 2023 at Mary Immaculate Hospital after battling several illnesses over the last couple of months.
Rickie was born November 9, 1954 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia to the late Phillip Gibbs Sr. and Vernell Brown. He was preceded in death by his sister Rhonda Blow Ralph.
Rickie was a big guy with a bigger heart and many skills but his passion was painting. He took pride in every paint job, when completed he would stand back and admire all of his hard work.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife, Shante Bowen Gibbs; his mother,Vernell Brown; three sons: Rico Gibbs, Rashad Gibbs, and Ramel Gibbs; three sisters:
Shirley Haskins (Sherman), Tammy Wells (Everette), and Denise Brown; three brothers, Genie Brown (Tonia), Mark Brown, and Phillip Gibbs Jr, a sister in law; Shannon Bowen Clarke of
Concord, North Carolina, a uncle and aunt whom he loved and respected; Douglas and Bonnie Thompson of Portsmouth, Virginia, as well as a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews whom he adored.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Altmeyer Funeral Home Denbigh Chapel located at 12893 Jefferson Ave. Newport News, VA 23608.
