Richard S. Roy, known to his loved ones as Rick, was born in Orlando, Florida on December 22, 1956. He passed away on June 16, 2023 at the age of 66 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Rick will be remembered as a devoted husband, proud United States Navy veteran, and skilled handyman by those who were lucky to know him.

His interests were diverse and included NASCAR, cooking breakfast for his family, working with computers, drive-through restaurants (especially Chic-Fil-A), carpentry work, yard work, and spending time with his loved ones. He was well-educated in his career field and obtained certifications for being a Microsoft Certified Professional and a CompTIA Professional. Additionally, he received a Certificate of Appreciation for his service in the Armed Forces of the United States.

Rick leaves behind his beloved wife of 37 years, Gail T. Roy. He was also a loving father to Jessica Andrade (Doug) and step father to, Theresa Schulok (Joseph) and, Tammy Murree (Dave),. The cherished family cat, Dusty will miss Rick’s warm presence in their home. He is survived by his sisters Sue Dunn (Mike), Tracy Levesque (Jim), Ronni-Jean Marois and their families. Furthermore, Rick has five treasured grandchildren: Ryan Schulok, Cameron Nepini, Sarah Nepini, Tyler Schulok, and Tye Murree.

Services for the departed are scheduled as follows: A memorial service will be held at Altmeyer Funeral Southside Chapel on Friday, June 23 at 4 pm. A private inurnment at Arlington National Cemetery will take place in the near future and is yet to be determined.

Rick spent his final day experiencing the joys of life with his beloved wife. He started the morning mowing the lawn on his rider mower. Later on, he took Gail out for a nice lunch and then went shopping together. Gail reflected on that afternoon with fondness, recalling Rick’s jokes and their shared laughter. She will miss Rick more than words can express.

Rick will always be remembered for his dedication to his country and his family. His memory will live on through those he loved and the countless lives he touched throughout his life.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
