KNOTTS ISLAND – Phyllis Messman Ready, 94, passed away peacefully on September 26,  2022 in the comfort of home in the care and presence of loving family. A wife, mother grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, she was born September 16th, 1928 in Pekin, IL, the daughter of the late Harry Fredrick and Laura Lizbeth Sams Messman and the sister of the late Thomas Messman.

Phyllis was the wife of the late Francis X Ready to whom she was married for 53 years.  She traveled extensively throughout their life in the Diplomatic Corp, living and raising their 7 children in Taiwan, Japan, Iran, Denmark, The Philippines, Brazil and the United States.

She was the loving mother of seven children, four daughters, and three sons; John (wife, Rhonda) of Sterling, Virginia, Cynthia Herring (husband, Pat) of Frisco, Texas, Susan Myers (husband, Mike) of Alexandria, Virginia, Lynn Ridlon (husband, Dave) of Virginia Beach, Carol Molloy (husband, Rick) of Knotts Island, North Carolina, Jeffrey (wife, Cindy) of Salinas, Texas, and David (wife, Jackie) of Leesburg, Virginia. The loving grandmother to thirteen grandchildren, Casey Ridlon Hill, Erica Ridlon, Jake Herring, Jessie Herring, Aidan Molloy, Connor Molloy, Emily Ready, Kelly Myers, Avery Myers, Michaela Ready, Katelyn Ready, Ashleigh Ready, and Kendra Ready. She was also the loving great-grandmother to two great-grandchildren, Adalynn Hill and Blakely Hill.

Phyllis loved Dixieland Jazz, eating good food, doing crossword puzzles and watching Movies. She loved to read, and enjoyed listening to music while relaxing with her beloved Siamese cats Romeo and Rambo. Phyllis loved sharing holidays and birthdays with her big family. She cherished life and all the moments of love and laughter that it held.A celebration of life is planned for the near future. Details will be shared with the family and close friends. Interment will be beside her late husband in St. Andrews Chapel Cemetery, 1308 Trap Road, Vienna, VA. Friends are invited to sign the online guest book at www.altmeyerfh.com.

Phyllis was our neighbor at Waltonwood. I believe she enjoyed being in NC. Beautiful views forever. Sandy and Bob
