Paul Vincent Paternite, born on December 31, 1949, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away on March 17, 2024, in Norfolk, Virginia, at the age of 74.

A man of strength, grace, and unwavering dedication, Paul’s life was marked by service and love. A retired member of the US Navy, employee at Cavalier Marine Supply in Norfolk, Virginia, and Ocean Air Elementary School with Norfolk Public Schools as a cafeteria manager, he gave his all to everything he pursued.

Paul found joy in simple pleasures – from cooking to swimming, trains to computers, his interests were as varied as they were deep. As a former member of the Izaak Walton League in Little Creek and having served his country proudly for twenty years, Paul leaves behind a legacy of commitment and passion.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul F and Genevieve Paternite, his brother Joseph Paternite, sister-in-law Karen Paternite, and niece Lisa M. Paternite. Paul is survived by his loving wife Cheryl H. Paternite, daughters Christina M. Paternite, Christine M. Paternite, and Kimberly A. Paternite, sons James Michael Paternite and Robert A. Paternite and son-in-law, Jeremy Wright. His Siblings, Angela (Roger) Paternite, Daniel Paternite, Anthony (Vanda) Paternite, and Carol Paternite Sr. Along with his grandchildren that he helped raise, Kaylee, Natalee, Audrey, Macey, Zoey, Douglas, Madelyn, and nine others: Xander, Vincent, Braylen Paul, Gregory, Gavin, Bearett, Rosea, O’rian, and Selena. He also leaves special nieces and nephews including a godson and sister-in-laws Carol Paternite, and Teresa Hill.

Services to celebrate Paul’s remarkable life will be held as follows: Visitation on Monday, April 1, from 6-8pm at Altmeyer Southside, followed by a Funeral on Tuesday, April 2, at 1:30 pm also at Altmeyer. The burial will take place at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Norfolk immediately following.

The family of Paul Paternite would like to express their sincere thanks for the prayers, kind thoughts, and other expressions of love during this time of bereavement. Paul’s spirit and legacy will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
