Patsy Mitchell Sharrock passed away peacefully and surrounded by family, at her home in Virginia Beach, on March 28, 2017. A fiercely proud descendent of keepers of the Cape Hatteras light and of the watermen of the Outer Banks, Pat was born on Hatteras Island, NC in May 1943 and was 73 years old. As the daughter of a Coast Guard warrant officer and as the wife of a naval officer, she experienced and enjoyed life in Morocco, the Philippines, and Japan, but Virginia Beach was always home. She had deep matriarchal ties to an extended family throughout the Outer Banks and Tidewater, was loved by many, and will be missed by all.
Pat was the grand-daughter of Almy and Lovie Burrus of Hatteras Island, the daughter of Walter I. and Lucille B. Mitchell, and the sister of Barbara M. Kaseote, all of whom precede her in passing. She is survived and her memory is cherished by her loving husband of 41 years, Dr. Michael F. Sharrock, and by her many family members. These include her daughter Marguerite M. Durand and husband James, her daughter Christian S. Miller and husband Brad, and her daughter Katie E. Sharrock. Pat was the doting grandmother of Brian D. Kinney, Elizabeth A. Miller, and Michael C. Durand, and was the loving aunt of Andrea L. Tembreull and the late Steven M. Kaseote.
Pat’s extended family members and friends were many, and include her brother-in-law Richard Sharrock, her aunt Ruby Burrus and her husband the late Dalton Burrus, and her uncle the late William “Corky” Burrus and his wife Sharon. Pat’s cousins are Donna Silar and her husband George, Terry Burrus and his wife Janice, Linda Hawkins and her husband Bruce, Daphne Burrus, and their many children. Close family friends include Cliff and Molly Kratt, Joanne and Cliff Vandersip, Dee Clarke, Chance Bland, Lynn Hux, and Damon Walker.
A service to celebrate her life will be held Friday, March 31, 2017 at 9:00 am at Altmeyer Funeral Home – Maestas Chapel, 1801 Baltic Ave. at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. Burial will follow in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends tonight, Thursday March 30th from 6 – 8:00 pm.
