Memorial Service

Patricia Ann Kraai passed away Monday August 30, 2021 at home in Virginia Beach VA.
Pat was born March 17, 1950 in Bowling Green, OH to the late Bernard and Ruth (Stewart) Shelton. Her family later relocated to Grand Haven, MI where, at 14, she met the love of her life. Pat and Bernie quickly became teenage sweethearts, and subsequently married in Grand Haven on September 29, 1972.
Pat graduated from Cosmetology School and was a licensed Cosmetologist in Michigan and Virginia. She also worked as a retail sales manager in various locations they lived as a Navy family. Her unselfish and steadfast support to family and Service as a Navy spouse cannot be overstated.
Foremost, Pat was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family and faith were the center of her life. She was outgoing and made friends easily with those she met. She loved life and lived it to the fullest, making the journey through the years fun and memorable for all who knew her. She loved and was very gifted at sewing, crafts, home and holiday decorating, and shopping.
Pat’s passing follows a long and courageous battle with cancer and pulmonary fibrosis. Despite her significant medical challenges, she never once complained. She praised the Lord for each day she had.
Left to celebrate her memory are her husband Bernie Kraai of nearly 49 years; 3 children: Ryan (Jenny) Kraai of Camarillo CA, Glenn Kraai of Virginia Beach, and Sara (Jim) Vachon of Virginia Beach; 5 grandchildren: Catalina, Jacob, Brianna, Hailey, and Autumn; sister Merry Lou (Jim) Bramer and brother Scott (Jill) Shelton of Michigan; and extended family members and friends throughout the country.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 PM on Friday, September 17, 2021 followed by a memorial service and reception at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Southside Chapel, 5033 Rouse Dr., Virginia Beach, VA 23462. Family asks that those in attendance wear a mask and practice social distancing. Flowers may be sent to the funeral home or, in lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or the Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad. Pat was a one-of-a-kind woman that God broke the mold after creating her. She was always willing to reach out to those who needed help. She had a GREAT Heart and God worked through her the time that I knew her.

We are SO sorry for your loss, Bernie! We love you and will continue to pray for you and the family!

Bernie and family, please know that Pat hasn’t gone far away from you. You will see her in the faces of your children and you will hear her voice in the laughter of your grandchildren. When difficult times face you, find a quiet place and listen to your heart. She is there guiding you as always.
