Myrtle “Me-maw” Broughon Smith, of Virginia Beach, passed on to heaven on May 23, 2017. She was born on June 22, 1930 in Norfolk, VA to Herbert and Mary Ilene Martin Broughon. She graduated from Maury High School in 1949 and married Gilbert L. Smith in 1950. Together, they had seven children. She loved nothing more than being with her family. She was predeceased by her parents and two sons, William A. Smith and Wesley H. Smith. She will be dearly missed by her husband and her children: Steven C. Arnold, Gilbert L. Smith, Jr., David E. Smith, Diane V. (Joe) Sibert, and Wesley A. Smith. She also leaves her sister, Mary B. Vincent, 18 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to mourn her passing. Myrtle was a member of Foundry United Methodist Church since 1960. Please join the family for her funeral service at Foundry UMC, Va. Beach, at 11 am on May 31, with pre-service visitation at 10 am. I love you Myrtle, you will always be in my heart. I miss you terribly already but I know you are an angel with Momma and the rest of the family.
