02/15/1966 - 08/18/2023

Michael Joseph Murray, loving husband, devoted father, and master carpenter, passed away peacefully at his home in Virginia Beach, VA on August 18, 2023, at the age of 57, after a brave battle with brain cancer.

Born on February 15, 1966, in Passaic, New Jersey to Paul and Barbara Murray, Michael moved to Virginia Beach with his family in 1975. He grew up in this community and went on to spend most of his life here. Known for his exceptional work ethic and passion for his craft, Michael carved out a successful career as a carpenter. He not only owned his own business but also shared his expertise as a carpentry teacher, positively influencing the lives of many aspiring craftsmen.

Michael’s impact on the local community was immeasurable. He built and renovated countless houses, skillfully constructing additions and decks that enhanced the lives of his customers. His unwavering dedication to his work ensured that people’s homes remained safe and sound, earning him a devoted clientele in the Hampton Roads area. Known for his integrity, loyalty, and hardworking nature, Michael was admired by all who knew him.

In January of 1998, while repairing a roof, Michael met the love of his life, Christine Murray. Their love story blossomed, leading to a joyous marriage that brought forth two wonderful sons, Seth William and Nathan Michael. Michael cherished his role as a husband and father, always providing unconditional love, guidance, and support to his family. The memories they created together will forever be treasured.

Michael will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Christine; his sons, Seth William and Nathan Michael; his brother, Shawn Murray; sister-in-law, Kim Murray and Julie Schachet; father-in-law, Bill Doyle; his loving nieces and nephews, Kyle, Joey, Halie, Brooke, and Grace; aunts and uncles; and lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Murray (Doherty), sister June Murray, and brother Scott Murray.

A memorial service to honor the life of Michael Joseph Murray will be held at a later date, allowing family and friends to gather and celebrate his remarkable journey. His legacy as a skilled carpenter, a devoted family man, and a true friend will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Christine, Seth & Nathan,
We can not express our heartfelt sympathy enough to all of you. Just know you have friends that will do everything and anything for you in your time of need.
For Michael:

God saw you were getting tired, and a cure was not to be, so he put his arms around you and whispered, “come to me”.
With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating, hard-working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us. He only takes the best.
