CSM Max Alex Kassis

CSM Max A. Kassis, 71, of Newport News, passed away June 4, 2022. He is predeceased by his father Alex W. Kassis and mother Violet P. Kassis, as well as his brother James Bakies Jr. Left to honor his memory are his spouse Leslie L. Kassis, Children Jason Kassis (Danna), Hunter Melvin (Alexis), Hayven Melvin, his sister Lyda R. Ashburn and many beloved grandchildren: Madison Kassis, Rylee Kassis, Elijah Melvin, Maximus Melvin, Juelz Melvin, Olivia Melvin, Camden Booze, A’manya Booze, and Gabrielle Booze.

CSM Kassis held a long and proud career as a United States Army Ranger in the 173rd airborne brigade combat team, and served in both the Vietnam and Iraq Wars. Highly decorated, throughout his career CSM Kassis earned many honors including a Bronze Star Medal, two Purple Hearts, three Meritorious Service Medals, and two National Service Medals. Along with his military career he was very active in his community, serving as the State President of the U.S. MVMC. He also loved spending time with his family, and his favorite past time was cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting events. CSM Max A. Kassis will be dearly missed by friend and family alike.

Funeral services with military honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

My heart will always be happy I was honored to know Max. To me, a great Leader and mentor, gave me a huge amount of guidance as my NCOIC at Fort Irwin, Ca. 171st MCC .
