Mary Margaret Urick, 90, passed away Friday, April 15, 2016. She was born to the late Thomas Joseph and Mary Margaret Carreras on September 25, 1925.
She was married to the late L Michael Urick, Sr. for more than 66 years. In addition to her parents and husband she is predeceased by her five brothers, son-in-law and a granddaughter.
Mrs. Urick is survived by her three sons, L. Michael Urick, Jr (Sheila), T. Joseph Urick (Jean) and John F. Urick; two daughters, Margaret U. Harrell and Mary J. Segar (George); Mary had 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Mary joined the Catholic Daughters of the Americas in 1952. She was the Regent of Court Norfolk 1212 and later of Court of the Holy Spirit. Mary also served as District Deputy followed by Virginia State Regent. She instituted Court Stella Maris in Virginia Beach of which she was a recent member.
Mary was a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church and served as President of the Woman’s Club. She also sang in their funeral choir. She and her husband delivered Meals on Wheels for many years together.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 1:00pm Thursday, April 21, 2016 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 5345 Virginia Beach Boulevard Virginia Beach. Burial will be in Princess Anne Memorial Park, Virginia Beach. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 PM till 9:00 PM at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 6350 Center Drive Norfolk, VA 23502. I remember when Margaret, Mary and my daughter had lunch at the Broken Egg Bistro. It was so much fun having two moms and two daughters eating a simple meal together. Thanks for letting me share a few moments with your mom.
