Mary Jarrell Daughdrill (88) passed peacefully to eternal life with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 13th. She died the way she lived, as an offering to God. A long time resident of Virginia Beach, she resided in Westminster Canterbury since 2003. A native of Mississippi, she was the youngest daughter of the late James T. and Julia Harvey Jarrell. She was predeceased by ten of her siblings, with only one surviving sister, Jean Saucier of Poplarville, MS.
Her husband of 57 years, love of her life and soul mate, Gaston Daughdrill (US Army Ret.) predeceased Mary in 2003. Left to cherish her are two daughters, Nedra D. Lane and husband, Carlton; Arlene D. Bassford; two grandchildren, Jason Lane (US Army) and Adriann Lane Haney; and three great-grandchildren, Tia Lane, Jules Lane, and Wyatt Haney. How dearly she loved each one of them. Owing to her strong Christian faith, she was always involved in the life of the Church which included many leadership rolls. She also served with several charitable groups in all her travels. As an Army wife and mother, wherever his duty took them, she kept the home fires burning while her husband served his Country.
She loved all her family in Mississippi and cherished her many friendships within her Church family, her Westminster Canterbury family, and past neighbors near and far. By the many lives she has touched, she will be deeply missed.
Her daughters and family wish to extend heartfelt appreciation to the extraordinary healthcare and hospice staff at Westminster Canterbury for their caring support of her and them.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Haygood United Methodist Church on Sunday, September 27 at 2pm by the Rev. Tammy L. Estep. The family will receive friends at a reception in the Church social hall immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Haygood Memorial Fund, c/o Haygood UMC, 4713 Haygood Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23455. A private burial service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date when internment will be with her husband. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.altmeyerfh.com.

I am so sorry for your loss. Mary was a wonderful person, a true ‘southern lady’. I know you will miss her dearly. My heart is sad, knowing of her passing.
