Margaret Louise Clark Allen passed away peacefully at her home in Virginia Beach November 27, 2022. She was 99 years old.
Margaret was born September 20, 1923 in Framingham, Massachusetts to Waldomar and Ida Mills Currier Clark. She was their oldest and last surviving child. She met her husband Arnold Ray Allen while they were both in the Navy and were married January 28, 1953 in Port Deposit, Maryland. They were married for 50 years.
Margaret enlisted in the U.S. Navy Waves September 18, 1944 under the delayed enlistment program. She reported to active duty on the 14th of December. She was a Navy Hospital Corpsmen stationed at Batheseda Naval Medical Center until she ended service on the 18th of September 1953. She obtained the rank of HM1 as an X-ray technician.
As a family they moved to Norfolk, Virginia where her husband known as Ray to many was home-ported before moving to their final home in Bayville Park in 1963 where they raised their 6 children. Her home was always a welcome place to friends, family and anyone in need. Many children grew up playing in her yard. She always made sure there was a warm bed and hot food on the table for all. One of her favorite activities was feeding the birds, squirrels, butterflies and any other animal that would wander into her yard. She loved working in her vegetable garden and her flower gardens. Over the many years there were countless dogs that called her house home. At times she even helped raise chickens, rabbits and an occasional orphan squirrel. She also enjoyed many days on the private end of Chic’s beach sun bathing and collecting shells where they had many cookouts. She was well known among the residents of the area.
Besides her time in the Navy, she also worked in the ticket booth of the Shore Drive Inn Movie theater and at the Econolodge on Northampton Blvd in Virginia Beach. She was a Sunday school teacher at Bayside Christian Church where she was a life long member. She loved listening to and singing along with all the old hymns.
She was pre-deceased by her parents, brothers David and Putnam Clark, Sisters Shirley Dunaway Spaulding and Helen Lewter and their spouses, her youngest daughter Stormy Finley, and many brother and sister in laws, nephews and nieces. She is survived by her children Ark “Chip” (Francis) Allen, Sharon Disbennett, Robert, David and Linda Allen and son-in-law James Finley. Mom, no matter what I was doing or how far I roamed I never knew a day in my life without you in it. You were a mother to Frankie longer than her own mother was. We take comfort in knowing that you are at peace, with Pop once again and the two of you are watching over us.
I had the great pleasure of knowing you, Mrs. Allen. Thank you for being such an amazing, gracious and wonderful woman to me. I will miss you and your kindness.
