Deacon Mal Chul Walmon was born on February 3, 1948, to her loving and cherished mother, Sun Hui Choe. She had one adopted brother and was the youngest of three daughters. Her family survived the hardships of the Korean War being torn from their home and living in the mountains when Mal was just two years old. Her family settled in Angang-eup, a small subdivision of Gyeongju City. However, it was while she was working in Waegwan-eup that Mal would meet and marry the love of her life, Oliver Walmon, Sr. Mal Chul would go on to have two sons with Oliver. Mal and Oliver would also raise their oldest granddaughter during her years from middle school through college. Mal would also become the supportive force of the Walmon family as she cherished and loved four more grandsons and built wonderful homes for them to stay or visit in Stoneybrook, Colony Pines, and finally, Kiln Creek.
The Walmon’s travels, as a military family through Fort Eustis, VA, allowed Mal to see various countries to include Germany, Japan, and the United States. Mal would use her artistic and culinary skills to carve out a long career as a Pantry Chef at the Fort Magruder Inn and Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, VA, and the Omni Hotel in her hometown of Newport News, VA.
Mal endured more than most people could by fighting her condition for the better part of two years. During the entire period, she loved God, her children, grandchildren, and husband. She would give them advice and try to protect them, even in the face of medical hardships. She transitioned holding the hand of her two sons knowing the love of God,
her family, and various friends in the community.
