Lynne Koppenhaver, of Virginia Beach, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2016 at the age of 46 years. She was born on September 12, 1969 in Oakland, California to the late Carroll D. and Trudy K. Smith.
Left to Cherish Lynne’s memory are her husband of 26 years, Michael; son Patrick R.; son Phillip M. and his wife Virginia; son Killian T.; son Keiran A. Koppenhaver; mother Trudy K. Smith; brother Michael Smith; and sister Debra Webb; niece Katie Houpt; nephew Johnnie Houpt; niece Brooke Barnes; and nephew Andy Barnes. Further survived numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins in Iowa, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, other relatives, and friends.
Lynne shared with her family and friends a wonderful sense of humor and her love of karaoke. In her vocation as wife to Michael, she was exceedingly supportive of his Naval and Maritime Career both at sea and ashore. She was always supporting her children’s musical (which encompassed marching band, symphonic, and orchestral settings) and athletic (encompassing baseball, basketball, football, and wrestling) endeavors and being one of their biggest fans.
Memorial services for Lynne will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Altmeyer Funeral Home Southside Chapel (5792 Greenwich Rd. Virginia Beach, VA 23462) at 7 PM with reception to follow.
As Lynne was an active participant for St. Baldrick’s Foundation, her family would like to direct memorial contributions to benefit their work with treating childhood cancer. It was so dear of a cause to her that she even shaved her head to be in solidarity with those courageous souls battling cancer. Mrs. Koppenhaver was always willing to help out in my classroom in any way when I had the pleasuring of having Keiran in my kindergarten and 3rd grade class. We also had the fun watching our children, Connor and Killian, play basketball together for Courthouse Recreation. What I remember most is her smile, kind heart, and love for her boys.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family for comfort and peace. We met Lynne through the friendship of our children, when we did talk she always made me laugh.
Your cherished memories of your wife and mom will be yours forever and she will live in your hearts and soul through these memories.

My thoughts and prayers are the family at this time. Lynne will be very missed by her Princess Anne Middle School family as well. She was a dedicated wife, mother and colleague. You always knew your students were in good hands when she was working with them. It was a great sigh of relief just two years ago when I had to take Family Medical Leave to take care of my own son who had suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury. Lynne rose to the challenge and made sure she was familiar and ready for the classes and curriculum that were placed before her. Heaven has a new angel, but she will be greatly missed here on Earth.

So sorry to hear of your loss. I have all of you in my thoughts and prayers. My heart is heavy because loosing you mother is one of the hardest times of your life. The one thing that really stands out to me when I think of your mother/wife and touched me in a special way was the love and pride she had for her family. She was your family’s biggest cheerleader. Hugs to you all.
