Lorraine Victoria Gurley passed away peacefully at her home after an extended illness on December 24th, 2022. Our beautiful mom was born at home in Depew, New York on October 3, 1937. The family then moved to Grand Island, New York, shortly after, where she spent time with her beloved father learning all about the animals and flora, which instilled in her a great passion for gardening. She married and moved to Oxnard, California, where she began raising five children and completed her Associates Degree in Library Science. She then moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia, where she met and married the love of her life, Charles Lee Gurley on February 10, 1990. She worked as an office manager for Borden Print Shop before retiring in 1999 to spend her golden years with Charlie. Lorrie enjoyed spending many hours with her very good friends in their Virginia Beach Red Hat Chapter and volunteered countless hours with the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad Auxiliary and Star of the Sea Catholic Church.

Lorrie is preceded in death by her father and mother, Frank and Celia Noras and her beloved son and daughter, Jeffery Hidy and Rebecca Hidy.

Lorrie is survived by her loving husband, Charlie, and her beloved cat Piper. She is also survived by her children, Jennifer McInnis and husband Larry, Aimee Greco and husband Eric, and Regina Barco and husband Tim. She was blessed with her precious grandchildren, Devin White and wife Chloe, Kyle Greco and fiancée Ann Carrico, Anthony and Victoria Chiusano, Celia, Jeffrey, Kemp and Tess Greco, Tucker and Bennett Barco, and Christopher McInnis, along with too many friends to mention. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation in her name to the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad.

A Catholic mass will be held on January 17th at 1:30pm at Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 1404 Pacific Ave, Virginia Beach, VA 23451, with Father Steve Deleon officiating.

Aimee, as you, Charlie and the family go through this difficult time, I pray you all have comfort and peace in knowing and remembering all the joy and love your Mom brought to everyone!
I just wanted to share this picture of her from 1979. I remember the first time I saw your Mom after years of not seeing her and no longer seeing that red hair! I then had to remember that we were no longer young children and our parents do age 🙂
May the God of hope fill you all with peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Joey and I both send heartfelt sympathy and understanding to Lorrie’s family. I knew her through Jennifer and Larry and, of course, through my long-time friend Charlie Gurley. Charlie and Lorrie were perfect for each other, and she gave Charlie the family he so deserved. Together they created a beautiful life. Memories live on forever.
