Leila Maria Shaheen, 59, passed away peacefully on 12-1-15 after a courageous 25 year battle with Lupus.
Leila was born on 12-28-1955 in La Belleza Santander, Colombia. She was the daughter of Efrain Barrera and the late Rosa Bertina Burgos. She immigrated to Miami, Florida from Colombia in 1964. There, she graduated with a Degree of Nursing from Florida National University.
She devoted her life to caring for her friends and family. This was evident in her passion for cooking. She was selfless and only concerned with the happiness of those around her.
Leila’s memory will be forever cherished by: her loving husband, Ibrahim Elias Shaheen, son Elias Ibrahim Shaheen, his wife and daughter Nicole & Gabriella Shaheen, daughter Angela Shaheen Garcia, her husband and son Andrews and Andrews Jr. Garcia, son Jacob Shaheen, father Efrain Barrera, brother Noe Burgos and 5 other brothers and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Her memorial service will be held at Altmeyer Funeral Home: 5792 Greenwich Rd. Virginia Beach, VA 23462 between 6:30 and 9:30pm on Friday December 4, 2015. The funeral service will be held at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church: 621 First Colonial Road Virginia Beach, VA 23451 at 1pm on Saturday December 5, 2015.
