Lawrence Eugene “Gene” Andrews Sr. passed away peacefully on June 20, 2023 in Virginia Beach, Virginia at the age of 75. Gene was born on October 8, 1947 in Fort Valley, Georgia to parents Annie Elizabeth and John Allen Andrews.
Gene married his sweetheart Cheri in 1965 in Macon, Georgia before beginning a career in the military. Together they moved across the country several times, eventually settling in Virginia Beach to raise their 3 sons and 2 of their grandchildren.
Gene proudly served as a quartermaster in the U. S. Navy, retiring as a senior chief in 1990 after 25 years of service. Upon retirement, Gene worked in computer sales and repair.
In his spare time, Gene most enjoyed swapping stories with his friends at The Muse, his retirement community. Additionally, he loved reading science fiction novels, watching westerns, learning about U. S. history, and researching genealogy. Gene was quick to laugh and loved to joke around with all of those he held near and dear. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure to know him.
Gene was predeceased by his parents; wife Jean Cheri Andrews; brother James Marion Andrews; and grandson Glenn Allen Andrews Jr. Left to cherish his memory are sons Lawrence Eugene Andrews Jr. (Maryann), Glenn Allen Andrews Sr., and Timothy Mark Andrews (Deborah); grandchildren Krista (Andre), Ashleigh, Abby (Kendall), Sydney, Jacob, and Ezra Andrews, and IO Martinez; Janelle Riccio and Thomas Gernheuser; as well as many other devoted friends and family members.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
