Laurie Jean Lasher (69) passed away on Wednesday September 6, 2023 after a long battle with early onset dementia. She is survived by her loving husband of 14 years, Robert Lasher. She is also survived by her four sons Carlton (Sarah) Grizzard, Aaron Grizzard, Bradley Grizzard, and Lee (Michelle) Lasher. Her four grandchildren Shelby Grizzard, Wyatt Doherty, Aby Furey, and Mason Grizzard, her mother Barbara Christensen, four sisters Jodie (Alan) Rance, Debbie (David) Mitchell, Terrie (Harry) Tully and Holly (Mark) Mitchell, and a plethora of nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her brother, Gregory Todd Christensen and her father Lt. Col. Dale C. Christensen.
Laurie was a dedicated English teacher for over 20 years. She had a passion for reading and writing that stayed with her up until the very end. Laurie had a beautiful voice and loved to sing every chance she got. She especially leaned on her favorite hymns as she had dedicated herself to various Methodist church choirs throughout her lifetime.
The family would like to give a very warm and sincere thank you to all of the staff at Walter Reed Nursing and Rehab Memory Care Unit who cared for Laurie in her final months.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Laurie’s honor to The DeGood Foundation – local affiliate of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library for Hampton Roads. Together, they mail free books to children each month from birth to age five to inspire a love of books, reading, and learning (DeGoodfoundation.org) or the Dementia Society of America (dementiasociety.org)
We send our love, prayers, and condolences to the Lasher/Christensen family. Laurie was truly a gifted woman who blessed my heart daily when we were colleagues at Forest Glen. I’m grateful to have been touched by an angel who has earned her wings! May she rest in Heaven peacefully, singing and rejoicing with our Father!🪽😇🙌🏾
