Laura Lee Tapp, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on August 18, 2023, at the age of 64. She was born on August 21, 1958, in New York, and her vibrant spirit touched the lives of all who knew her. Laura’s warm smile and kind heart will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Laura had a fulfilling career as a waitress, working at various establishments including Red Baron, Herman’s Harbor House, and Tuscany Ristorante Italiano. Her dedication and friendly demeanor made her a favorite among diners, who specifically requested Laura as their waitress. She took great pride in providing excellent service and building lasting connections with her customers.
Outside of work, Laura had a zest for life and a love for adventure. She enjoyed traveling and cherished moments spent by the water, basking in the warmth of the sun. The Outer Banks held a special place in her heart and anywhere she could put her feet in the water. Laura also had a green thumb and found joy in gardening. She loved cooking delicious meals for her loved ones.
Animals brought immense joy to Laura’s life, from her cherished pet children, Bailey the dog, and Buddy and Maggie the cats, to the chickens she cared for. She had a nurturing spirit that extended to all creatures, big and small.
Laura is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Audrey Metz Rhein. She leaves behind her devoted husband of almost 31 years, Dennis Tapp, her daughters Kristy Winter and Ashley Tapp, Son-in-law Matt Winter, and her adoring grandchildren Marlee, Aubree, and Gavin. Laura’s love and presence will forever be treasured by her family.
A celebration of Laura’s life will be held at the York River Oyster Company, in the banquet hall located above the pool, on Sunday, August 27, 2023. Visitors are welcome to pay their respects between 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM. This gathering will provide an opportunity for family and friends to come together, sharing memories and the the love they have for Laura.
Laura Lee Tapp will be remembered as a loving wife, a devoted mother and grandmother, and a dear friend. Her vibrant spirit, kindness, and warm smile will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
So sorry to hear of Lara’s passing. She was our neighbor and she kept an beautiful yard. She served us several times at Tuscany and hosted 3 parties. She was an awesome waitress. I know she will be dearly missed. ❤️ Our prayers go to the family.
