Laura Perkinson, 72, passed away on December 23, 2023 in Newport News, VA.

Laura lived her early years through her teens in Ohio. After receiving a degree in Art from Ohio University she married William O. Perkinson III and moved to Virginia and later received a degree in history from Christopher Newport College of the College of William and Mary. She enjoyed education and was a substitute teacher in the Denbigh area of Newport News specializing in Learning Disability. With her hobbies of jewelry making, crochet and knitting she served as president of the Williamsburg Knitting Guild. Laura was an extremely avid reader and having read War and Peace by the fourth grade she continued her reading until Alzheimer’s overcame her ability to read. Laura and her husband Owen have lived in Newport News for 53 years.

She leaves behind her husband, two brothers and their families.

There will be a visitation on Tuesday, January 2 from 3-4pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home Denbigh Chapel. A graveside service is to take place on Wednesday, January 3 at 1pm at Peninsula Memorial Park.

Laura was an avid reader; she knew so much and could talk on most any subject that came up. She was also very creative. Her artwork was wonderful. She enjoyed many different types of needlework and crocheted many blankets and throws for friends and family as well as lovely garments for babies in need. She enjoyed sharing her Scottish heritage with her family and Absolutely LOVED her puppy dogs! We are sorry to see the passing of Laura. Our thoughts go out to Owen at this time. May Laura rest in Peace.
