Kathryne Valentine was born in Danville, VA to Preston and Nellie Hopper Richmond on January 16, 1932.  She attended school at Averett College in Danville and then married William Lyle Valentine, also of Danville on August 22, 1953.  Her earliest career was as an Army officer’s wife, moving frequently around the US and Germany.  Later, she worked for 13 years as a Bank Branch Manager for Bank of Virginia, which became Wells Fargo.  In addition to being a devoted grandmother, and a world traveler with her sister Nancy and brother-in-law David, she was active in her church, a favorite fan of Norfolk Botanical Gardens and always an avid bird lover.

Kathryne is preceded in death by William Valentine and her great grandson Sawyer Armstrong.

Kathryne is survived by two daughters, Susan Armstrong, Kathy Valentine and her husband Paul Graber; four grandchildren, Jennifer Schenk, Jason Armstrong, Katie Armstrong and Katelyn Graber; and five great grandchildren, Logan Armstrong, Olivia, Piper and Sloane Armstrong, and Savannah Schenk.  Other special people in her life include Lee Armstrong, Sarah Armstrong, Bobby Schenk, Daniel Kontra and Tieara Jones.  We will all miss her.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation in Kathryne’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to the Virginia Beach SPCA. Donations may be made by going to www.tmcfunding.com or by clicking “HERE” for St Jude Children’s Hospital or clicking “HERE” for Virginia Beach SPCA.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, May 25th beginning at 12:00 noon at Kings Grant Presbyterian Church, followed by a brief reception.   Burial will follow at Princess Anne Memorial Park on Great Neck Road in Virginia Beach. Arrangements are by Altmeyer Funeral Home.

Vick and I grew to know Katherine at Thalia Triity and she was such a sweet heart. I loved talking with her and my time interactding with her. She was always so positive and supportive of my endeavors as the clerk of the session and I loved her dearly. I know her family will miss her and pray that thay will take comfort in the wonderful life and impact that Katherine lived and had.

I’ve had the honor and blessing to care for you and to also build a strong bond with you. You’re like the grandmother I’ve never had. You never judged me and always been my shoulder to cry on when needed. I know you back with all your friends partying and dancing. Save a dance for me!! You know how I come in your home and dance just to make you smile. I will miss you dearly. You and your family will always have a place i my heart. I love you all!
