Karen was born in Rhode Island on October 3, 1961 to Catherine J. Rodriguez and William F. Levy (deceased). She was raised in Virginia Beach, VA and was a graduate of Floyd E. Kellam High School in Virginia Beach and Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.
Karen became a loving mother to twin boys Donald and Brian in August of 1986, and again to her daughter Brandice, in July of 1987. She married Daniel F. Paternite on October 1, 2004 and became a loving stepmother to Jennifer Ruggio.
She was always there to help her children and grandchildren at a moment’s notice, and always very giving and helping to anyone in need.
She loved driving the school bus for Virginia Beach City Public Schools for many years and enjoyed seeing and working with the kids every day. Karen enjoyed many hobbies including crocheting, spending time at the beach with her family, boating, fishing, and playing bingo. She also loved camping at George Washington National Forest with Danny. She was known for her infamous potato salad, fried chicken, and sauce with meatballs that everyone always asked her to make. Most often, you could find her spending as much time as possible with her mother, children and grandchildren, whether in person or video chatting.
Karen is preceded in death by her stepfather, Jose P. Rodriguez; father, William F. Levy; and brother, Billy Levy, of Mahopac, NY.
Karen is survived by her loving husband, Daniel F. Paternite. She is also survived by her loving mother, Catherine J. Roriguez; children: Brandice Holroyd (Dustin), Jennifer Ruggio (Scott), Brian Murden (Monica), and Donald Murden (Courtney); brother, Michael Levy (Victoria); and sisters, Christine Levy and Marie Levy. She is also survived by her ten grandchildren: Brodey, Layla, Chase, Madison, Samantha, Natalie, Alexander, Hudson, Connor, and Skylar. She also leaves behind a host of extended family including siblings-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Especially her dearest friends Michelle, June, and Vera.
Karen will be greatly remembered as one of the most loving, caring, and selfless people by all who knew her.
