Kara Jean Spiers, 42, was called from this world June 13, 2016 to be with God. She was born in Waterbury, Connecticut to Lynn Taylor Baker and the late Terrance P. Baker.  It is the rarest of people who cannot be summed up by their accomplishments of which Kara had many.  Instead, her lasting legacy is how she made us all feel about ourselves.  Her everlasting smile could brighten the darkest of days.  Her infectious laugh could make the worst joke seem funny.  Her passion for her children made us all want to be better parents.  Her love of charity made us all want to give more.  Her mission to serve made us line up behind her so that we could help too.  She gave all she had and asked for nothing in return.  Having Kara on this Earth, even as shortly as we did, made all who were lucky enough to know her better people.  A legacy as rich as this is seldom ever found.  The greatest honor of Kara’s memory would be to let someone, anyone know they are loved because that’s what she did for all of us.
Left to cherish her memory besides her mother is her husband, Trevor G. Spiers; children, Rhea Lynn Spiers and Ryder Graham Spiers; brother, Timothy P. Baker; in-laws Victoria R. Spiers, John G. Spiers, Roseli Z. Spiers and many loving friends and extended family members.
A memorial to celebrate her life will be held Tuesday, June 21st, 2016 at 11:00am at Altmeyer Funeral Home – Maestas Chapel, 1801 Baltic Ave. Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Hampton Roads Whalers National Pee Wee Hockey Team and the Virginia Beach Blades Figure Skating Team may be made in Kara’s name at www.TMCFunding.com

Kara inspired so many of us to begin teaching at the YMCA. Her bright light will be missed but we are all that much better for having had her touch our lives.

My heart goes out to Kara’s entire family. She was such a bright light in so many lives and touched me deeply. She hired me as a yoga teacher at the Y just after I received my 200 hour certification. It was only later that I learned she was a member, herself, who stepped up when the previous Group Ex director left. That was Kara. Stepping in, helping out wherever she could. I pray she finds rest and peace, which she richly deserves. Bless and thank you, Kara, for illuminating so many lives.

A few months ago, Kara, Jennifer and I went to Coralla for the day, we all laughed, cried and climbed trees!

Dear Lynn and family,
Although we never met Kara Jean, the words and tributes written about her by those who knew her best tell a wonderful story. Your daughter served as a role model in her short time on earth. Her caring nature came naturally from you, Lynn and Yankee (RIP). May you find strength in knowing what an inspiration Kara Jean was to so many others.

God Bless you Kara and we know you will always be with your family. It was us that truly received the blessing of having got to know you and call you a friend to our whole family. You and your beautiful family will always be in our thoughts and prayers.
