I’ll never forget when I had flown down for my Dad’s surprise birthday party. Aunt Junie and Uncle Howard graciously let us stay at their house the night before. I and a couple of siblings wanted to have an alcholic beverage before turning in but Aunt Junie wouldn’t hear of it in the house; so we went out to the car! 🙂 That aside, I’d like to share a poem I wrote in 1998 to help me with my Dad’s passing. Aunt Junie had a wonderful life and I feel it’s appropriate for this sad occasion:

Do not weep for me, she said.
I am not gone, I am not dead.

This life’s journey was a wondrous one –
My next life’s journey has just begun.

A journey filled with new and fascinating things,
A journey my old life could never bring.

A life free from sorrow, free from anger, free from pain,
A world full of color, full of brightness, free of rain.

With friends there to greet me, and family, too;
Who have waited for me, as I’ll wait for you.

So do not weep for me;
Of you I am a part.

I will always be in your memories,
I will always be in your heart.

My great grandma was very loving and warm hearted. I still remember her showing me how to bake the pumpkin pie I loved so much at every thanksgiving (She still made the best). I also remember playing the Nintendo over their house every time me and the cousins go over there. It was funny watching great grandma try and play it. I’m really going to miss you great grandma. I hope you are in a better place looking over all of us. Love you.
