June Marie Norman Rickert

May 25, 1926 - June 18, 2022

05/25/1926 - 06/18/2022

Virginia Beach – June Marie Norman Rickert, 96, peacefully passed away on June 18, 2022. A native of Norfolk for 90 years, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Marie Norman, and was preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen Norman. June graduated from Maury High School. She served as a proud volunteer in the U.S.O. supporting the troops who passed through Norfolk during wartime. It was at a U.S.O. dance that June met the love of her life Robert K. “Rick” Rickert, whom she married in 1951. They remained happily married for 63 years until his passing in 2014.

June loved and surrounded herself with family and friends. She and Rick had four children; Robert K. “Rob” Rickert, Jr. (Zinta), Kathy Rickert Jennings (Gary), Gary Norman Rickert (Christine) and Sandra “Sandy” Rickert Mieczkowski (Brian); 12 grandchildren, Virginia (Jamie), Elizabeth (Kevin), Keri (Clay), Ali (Andrew), Meghan (Alex), Wesley (Megan), Trevor, Ashley, Natalie, Viktorija, Erika, and Krista; and six great grandchildren, Andrew, Bailey, Chase, Connor, Harrison and June Marie.

A memorial service will be held in October. Memorial donations may be made to the U.S.O. (https://secure.uso.org/donate) or St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children (https://saintmaryshome.org/donate/ways-to-donate/).

The family would like to thank the dedicated staff of Arden Courts Memory Care for the loving care they offered June. We would also like to acknowledge Rick and June’s “adopted” daughter, Marcia McNelly Baker, our life long family friend and a nurse who was always ‘on call’ when needed.

I am so sorry to hear about June’s passing. I will remember all the happy times our families spent together and the family friendship that has endured over 3 generations which began when two young girls, June and Genevieve, and their mothers, Marie and Elizabeth met over 90 years ago. May the love of Family and friends comfort you. I want you to know I am thinking of each of you Rick, June, Robbie, Kathy, Gary and Sandy with warm remembrance and love. Rest In Peace June, I know you had many angels to welcome you to Heaven.

So thankful to count as a dear friend one of June’s precious daughters, Kathy. We have always admired the strong familial love of the Rickerts. Only truly awesome people could have produced such kind and loving offspring. June is gone but her special legacy lives on in each of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. God bless you all.

June was a beautiful and gracious lady who adopted our Jamie and us as family immediately. Her warm and gentle nature along with her wonderful sense of humor endeared us to her at first meeting. She will be missed, but remembered with fondness and love. We were so blessed to be thought of as part of her family.
