I saw a commercial for Dune this evening and without thinking texted Josh to see if he wanted to see it later this month. We had been talking over the winter about Dune but hadn’t talked since probably March or April. I had a strange error when I texted. I don’t know why but my heart sank and I googled his name only to discover the obit. It’s hard for me to put into words what Josh meant to me. He was an elder – the only elder who was divorced in a very similar situation as mine. He was a huge support and a good friend. We didn’t keep as close contact in recent years but every few months we’d catch up. I’m truly heart broken to read this and no his family must be as well. He spoke often of you kids and his sisters. I would love to share more of anyone wants to reach out. I am going to miss him terribly.

Kristen and Joshua. I just learned of your dad’s passing when reconnecting to our UMHS high school class for our 50th year reunion event in 2022. Your dad and I were in several clases together and hung out at events. We lost track of one another and I was very surprised to learn he was living in Norfolk. We’ve been here too since I retired from the Army and even attended the same church at different times. So sorry we couldn’t connect while he was here. My condolences on his passing- he was a great guy.

I’m so very sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. Shockley. He was always so upbeat and kind when we came over to visit with Josh. I’ve not met a more personable or generous host. Many prayers to Josh, his sister, and his aunts.

I only knew Josh for a short while when he joined the A/V team at First Presbyterian Church Norfolk. What I will always remember about him is how friendly and outgoing he was and how willingly he would share his faith and his life with those around him. Even in his final few days, he was sure in his salvation and shared many stories and happy memories from his life. I am thankful for each moment of the short time that I was able to spend with Josh. My prayers and condolences to Josh’s family.

Lytton and I are so sorry for another death in your family so close together. We know this is sudden and no doubt full of grief. Please know that we care for you and are praying for you. Because of the pandemic we have not been able to see you, but we will soon. We will be out of town the day of the funeral, but our thoughts will be with you and your family.
