Josephine Culpepper

July 24, 1933 - February 7, 2022

07/24/1933 - 02/07/2022

Josephine “Jo” Culpepper was born in Wilson North Carolina to Robert and Bert Minshew. Jo married Ray Walston and had two children, Steven and Dennis Walston of North Carolina. Later, Jo moved to Norfolk Va. where she met and married Walter F. Culpepper in 1956 and had two more children, Robert and Cynthia.
Jo was preceded in death by her loving husband Walter F. Culpepper and sister Doris Faye Nelms.
Jo leaves behind her sister Betty (Allison) Minshew of NC and three brothers, David and Bobby Minshew of NC and Danny Minshew of TN. Also, her daughter Cynthia Culpepper of VA and her sons Dennis Walston of NC and Robert Culpepper of NM along with family spouses, nieces and nephews.
Prior to becoming a housewife and homemaker extraordinaire, Jo worked as an office manager in a TV and Radio repair shop where Walter also worked. Jo enjoyed working in her flower beds, gardening, and working with ceramics. She was also known for her sewing and would design and make cloths, some quite fashionable that you would never know were hand made.
She always enjoyed a good joke, had a quick wit and a great sense of humor. She enjoyed spending time with family and was always up for a practical joke like the time at the zoo when she asked her Mom to hold her cotton candy so she could take a photo. This left her Mom with ice cream in one hand and cotton candy in the other. Little did her Mom know that the photo would be of her holding both!
As a mother she was a terrific cook, packed daily lunches for her family and always provided a hot supper in the evening. Mom was loved and will be deeply missed.

Sending heartfelt and deepest condolences and prayers to the family. I met Mrs. Culpepper many years ago through her daughter Cindy, my friend and co-worker. Mrs. Culpepper was a delightful person. We used to talk about gardening, recipes and yard sales. It was such a pleasure knowing her.
With deepest sympathy
