Joseph “Mac” McGlauflin, passed away on May 15, 2017 at the age of 88. Mac was born in Boston, Massachusetts to the late Charles McGlauflin and Helen Argue.
Mac proudly served in the United States Navy for 27 years, retiring at the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. After his time in the military he took up employment at the Virginian Pilot, where he worked 22 years obtaining the role of Chief Security Officer.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Shirley McGlauflin; son, William (Laura) McGlauflin; daughters, Lucille (Billy) Cox & Susan (Tony) Thompson; step-daughters, Michelle (Todd) Walker & Dawn (Rue) Miller, also 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren
Preceded in death by his first wife Elinore McGlauflin; mother, Helen McGlauflin; sister, Mary Conte.
A visitation will be held on May 22, 2017 from 11 am until 12 pm with a service immediately following at Altmeyer Funeral Home Southside Chapel, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23462.

Lucy, I was so sorry to hear of your dad passing. I pray all of your cherished memories bring you comfort.
Shirley, we we’re saddened to hear of Mac’s passing. The video you made with all the photos is wonderful! We are thinking of you and your family and praying for warm comfort and peace in your heart.

Mac always exuded a very sweet, calming spirit. He was kind, thoughtful, and caring of others. I am quite certain he has no idea how many lives he has touched, for sometimes it’s not in the words that people say or what they do but their mere presence is enough and that has a ripple effect that knows no bounds.
