Joseph Brylewski

May 9, 1969 - November 28, 2023

05/09/1969 - 11/28/2023

Joseph Anthony Brylewski Jr., 54, passed away peacefully on Nov. 28, 2023, after bravely battling a lengthy illness. Surrounded by loving family at the time of his death, Joe leaves behind a lifelong legacy of devoted civil service and love for his family.

Joe was born in 1971, at Langley Air Force Base, VA, the fourth of five children, to Joseph Anthony Brylewski Sr., and Rose Marie Brylewski (deceased). At the time of his death, Joe was a police officer, retired, with the Hampton Police Division where he had faithfully served the City of Hampton and the public for more than 20 dedicated years.

A lifelong patriot, Joe continued his family’s proud tradition of service to their country by joining the United States Navy Reserves. After his honorary discharge from the military, where he achieved the rank of Petty Officer Second Class, Joe attended Thomas Nelson Community College in Hampton, VA, where he earned an associate degree in criminal justice. Devoted to his family and friends, Joe enjoyed bowling and baseball. His favorite pastime, however, was vacationing in the Outer Banks where he enjoyed the serenity and pristine outdoors and where he felt most at peace.

Joe is survived by his beloved daughter Taylor Brylewski, father Joseph Anthony Brylewski Sr.; and siblings Ruth Keigley, Robert Brylewski, Teresa Brandt and Anthony Brylewski; along with their spouses. Additionally, Joe leaves behind numerous cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Joe’s name to Poquoson Fire and Rescue: Volunteer Rescue Squad | Poquoson, VA.
