John J. Evans Jr. was born on October 6, 1925 in South Hampton County to John J. Evans Sr. and Alberta Evans. He went to be with the Father on April 13, 2017. He is survived by his ex-wife, Hattie Evans; sons John J. Evans III, William Sylvester Taylor; daughters Bonita Evans Gray and Alfreda Adams; loving sisters Gloria (Dan) Bullock, Iris (Richard) Paige; eleven grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and a whole host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He worked at Naval Supply Center for several years. He was energetic, loved to fish, garden, sell produce, and tell hunting stories. He was known to narrate his own sound effects. He was also quite the hunter’s chef. Often times family members shared a tub with his latest victim, a deer. He loved the Lord and his family. One thing he often told his children was “Be a person of your word. If you say it, do it.”
He believed in hard work, being independent, and paying your own way. He was very frugal with his funds and often told his children to use cash and not credit. He was at times called “cheap” and “stingy” but the word “frugal” best suits him. He had a limited education but stressed the importance of a good education. He was an avid reader and would have a pile of Reader’s Digest books and newspapers in the living room. He encouraged his children to do “figures” (meaning math) and used a notebook each month to budget his income.
He will be deeply missed and his memories will be forever cherished.

Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of your loved one.
Almighty God is “the God of all comfort”. (2Corinthians 1:3-4) As you mourn and grieve your loss God is near to those who are heartbroken because He cares about you. (Psalm 34:18)
My uncle is now resting with the Lord God Almighty. Even though our hearts may be heavy and our eyes may be filled with tears we are at peace cause we know that you are resting eternally in it. With love always and we will miss you just as much
My deepest sympathy goes out to my Aunt Iris and Aunt Gloria as well as to the rest of my family. Uncle Jasper always positive and welcoming. My cousins and I used to love walking over to his house as kids to visit especially when Nita was in town. Fun memories!
My deepest sympathy goes out to our entire family. To my mom, my auntie, and all my cousins, New jersey sends gentle hugs your way, to comfort you, and to let you know that you’re in our hearts today and always.
Heartfelt sympathy to the family.SIPJasper
