John C. Holladay, IV, 47, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2022, in Virginia Beach, Virginia surrounded by his loving family. John was born April 15, 1975, to John and Eleanor Holladay in Norfolk, VA. He was a graduate of Maury High School and received a certificate in Information Systems Technology – Internet Specialist from Tidewater Community College.

John’s determination, resilience, and spirit were an inspiration to all of those who knew him. Despite a lifelong battle with type 1 diabetes and bronchiectasis, John persevered in living each day to the best of his ability. He was an enthusiastic and passionate member of his church, EVMS diabetes group, Hokie Club, Sea Scouts, Civil Air Patrol, and YMCA. He was also an avid organist, and a loyal “Red Rider,” where he rode his bike annually in the Tour de Cure to raise money and awareness for the American Diabetes Association.

John was a devoted and loving son, brother, and friend. His greatest gift was his ability to spread love and kindness everywhere he went. He knew no stranger, as he greeted everyone with his great smile, and warm heart. Always seeking to encourage those around him, and share his love for God, John was a vibrant, beautiful, and joyful soul – an angel who walked among us.

John is predeceased by his father, and elder brother, John C. Holladay, III. Left to cherish his memory are his mother, two younger brothers, Jeffrey and Jay, and a host of extended family and loving friends.

A visitation will be held at 10:00am, a service at 11:00am, and reception at 12pm on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at Thalia Lynn Baptist Church, 4392 Virginia Beach Blvd, in Virginia Beach. A committal service will then be held at 2:00 pm at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 8100 Granby St. in Norfolk.

I just this minute learned of John’s passing. I know this must be so difficult for all of the family. Please accept my deep condolences and my prayers for peace in your hearts.

I got to know John through his brother, Jay, who played travel ice hockey with my sons. John and I would sometimes stand together rink-side at the glass, watching the game and talking about everything and anything. He was easily one of the friendliest, most genuine people I have ever known. I’m privileged to have known him.

Heaven has another angel in John. He’s with Jesus, sitting at the right hand of the Father. May God bless all of you.

John was a beautiful Child of God who truly cared about other people. It was always a pleasure to talk with him and gain his perspective on things. He made everyone feel important and all who knew him are much richer for the experience. I pray that God’s loving presence and His promise of eternal life will comfort and sustain his family and friends during this time of loss.
