Joann Crank, age 83, widow of Eugene Crank, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of July 4th. She was born in Winston-Salem, NC, to parents Lena and Carl Morgan. She grew up in Portsmouth, VA, and lived most of her adult life as a loving and caring Mother in Norfolk, VA.
Joann graduated from Cradock High School of Portsmouth, VA in 1952 where she was active in numerous clubs and was a majorette. She liked to spend her free time roller skating or at the movies. Joann loved music, theatre, being a Sunday School Teacher, and her numerous pet doggies.
She is survived by son Greg Pope of NJ, son Edward Crank and grandsons Nicholas Crank and Greg Crank of Virginia Beach; son William Crank and wife April Dyrek of VA Beach; stepdaughter Linda Crank of Chesapeake; stepson John Crank of Norfolk; and stepdaughter Carol Crum and her husband Roger and their three children; Christie, Doug, and Danny of OH.
A celebration of life will be held for Joann on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Rd. Virginia Beach, VA. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery where the family will say their final goodbyes. The family would like to thank the many wonderful care givers at Dominion Village of Chesapeake, along with the Hospice workers who were there for her in the final weeks. I just found out that Joann passed away and I wanted to express my sorrow. I met her as a young woman and found her to be such a delight to be around.
