Jared Hunte-Lewis was the beloved son and only child of Marilyn A. Hunte, a single mother.  Born on November 8th, 1984, Jared grew up in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, New York.
Jared grew up in the church and had a love for God and for people.  An only child, Jared loved and thought of his childhood friends as his siblings, holding tight to their friendship throughout his life.
Jared acquired more siblings during his seven years of service with the US Navy.  During his time of service, Jared was awarded many certificates of recognition.  Of particular note among his accolades, Jared was awarded the Afghanistan Campaign Medal for providing exemplary care of detainees during the armed conflict in Afghanistan.  Simply put: Jared was a war hero.
Jared was an outstanding poker player who played with Virginia Beach’s branch of the US Open Amateur Poker League.  For the past two years, Jared was the point leader for his league.  Jared’s nickname in the poker community was Yoda.  And like the legendary Jedi Master from “Star Wars,” Jared was an old soul – blessed with wisdom and amazing skills.
Jared was a devoted New York Mets and New York Giants fan.  He loved both teams with an unwavering passion.
Jared was adventurous.  He enjoyed bungee jumping, zip lining, totally fearless when it came to heights.
Jared also enjoyed traveling and was blessed to indulge his wanderlust in many countries, especially in Asia and the Middle East. Jared lived and worked overseas in Dubai for three years.  Typical for Jared, he made many close friends in Dubai who he also loved and thought of as family.
Jared had many challenges in his life.  But in spite of it all, Jared always found a reason to smile.  A jokester, Jared loved to laugh and making others laugh along with him.  Jared was a kind, generous, good-natured man who made a positive impact on all who knew him.
Jared will be deeply missed and forever cherished by his son, Elijah Hunte; mother, Marilyn A. Hunte; great uncle Archie (Sheila) Hunte; 2nd mother/cousin Laurice “Wena” Johnson; and a host of bonus brothers and sisters, navy and poker buddies, friends and family by love and by blood.
“… Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on…They will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.” – Revelation 14:13 (KJV)

I’m still in disbelief that he is gone. The last time we spoke he was so hopeful for the future, want a fresh start and to build his relationship with his son. He the type of person that will light up a room and make everyone feel love. He one of the reason why I decided to take in the military. Jared you truly will be missed. I have comfort knowing that he is watching over us.
